Snail Mail

I receive a majority of the returned mail for our office. When we send out a bulk mailing, there are inevitably at least a couple pieces of mail that get returned, and I have to track down the correct address to update our mailing lists.

Yesterday there were two pieces of returned mail in my mailbox. Funny thing is that we haven't done a large mailing lately. Picking up the smaller envelope, I noticed right away that it was an envelope of an older single-color design that we haven't had in stock for a while. The first thought that crossed my mind was that someone in our office was using up old envelopes. But then I noticed the other envelope. It also had an older logo on it. Now I was interested to see what was in the envelopes.

The first envelope had an announcement for the World Literature Offering, to be taken on Pentecost Sunday - 2003! The postmark was April 2003. The second envelope had a brochure and letter from our previous director dated January 2003. The postmark was dated February 2003!

(To put that in perspective, I was a 21-year old student starting my last semester at ENC when that letter was sent out.)

Now I now we joke about the postal service being slow, but (seriously!) over 5 years?! Where has it been all this time? And why bother to return it to us now?
