Family Legacy

Last week my brother and I took a trip to South Carolina to spend a few days with our great aunt (our Grandpa Phillips’s sister). It has been about 7 years since we last visited our great aunt, so it was really nice to see her again.

While we were there, we took a day trip to Lumberton, North Carolina, the town where my grandpa was born and where generations of Phillipses have lived. About 2 years ago, as my brother and I were doing some genealogical research, we noted that many ancestors were buried in a Phillips cemetery in Lumberton. We thought it would be fun to connect with part of our family line that we know little about by visiting the cemetery. After some internet research, I connected with a distant cousin who was able to direct us to not just one, but 5 Phillips family cemeteries in the Lumberton area, 3 of which contain our closest relatives.
