Q&A: Industry & Agriculture

This continues the Q&A Series I've been posting about frequently asked questions I've received about Romania. This week looks at industries and agriculture. Since it is a subject that I know very little about, I've decided to answer primarily with pictures in addition to the official facts.

Q: What type of industries are found in Romania?
A: Romania has a wide variety of industries, including electric machinery and equipment, textiles and footwear, light machinery and auto assembly, mining, timber, construction materials, metallurgy, chemicals, food processing, petroleum refining.*

Here in Sighisoara, there are a few factories, including a clothing factory, a cheese factory, and a ceramics factory.

The Tarnava factory in Sighisoara produces clothing.

Q: What type of agricultural products do they produce in Romania?
A: wheat, corn, barley, sugar beets, sunflower seed, potatoes, grapes; eggs, sheep*

It is not unusual to see sheep being watched over by a shepherd
while driving through Romania.
"Till the Cows Come Home" is a common expression in English that I actually
get to see in Romania. Cows graze in the fields during the day. When
evening comes, they return to the town - each one to her owner's home.
In Romania, eggs are brown, sold 10 to a plastic bag, and each egg has
its expiration date stamped on it.
