First Day at the Global Ministry Center

Today was the first day of operations at the Church of the Nazarene's new Global Ministry Center.

Employees gathered at 8:00 AM for a short ceremony recounting God's faithfulness, led by the six general superintendents.

After the ribbon-cutting, we found our new offices, and began the process of unpacking.

All employees were treated to lunch in the new dining room, named The Paseo, commemorating the boulevard where Headquarters was located for over 50 years.

It was a very busy day that went by very quickly. I think I actually sat at my desk for 10 minutes of the whole day. I helped unpack several of our common work spaces and tried to make some furniture changes which will better meet our needs.

I still don't know how the new phone or fax systems work. I unpacked my plastic totes, but I haven't had a chance to sort through all my stuff yet.

I had one phone call from a constituent who needed some information. I really couldn't help him today. Maybe tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that. Whenever we start to function again.

Overall, it is very nice to have all employees working together in one building, rather than spread across a campus of 3 buildings. It will take some time for everyone to get used to working in cubicles, especially those who have had offices for many years. It will also take some time to get used to the more stringent codes of what can or can't go different places. (I think it takes a committee's approval to move a single piece of furniture.)

My favorite part about the new building is that it is only 2 1/2 miles from where I live -- a 6-minute commute.
