Doris Flinchbaugh (1924-2012)

The following was published in the York Daily Record & York Dispatch on April 5, 2012, about my great-great aunt. Although officially my grandmother's aunt, she was more like a sister to my grandmother and an additional grandmother to my brother and me. I am glad I was able to visit her a few times since my arrival in the US at the end of February. She will be missed.

RED LION Doris L. (Strickler) Flinchbaugh, 87, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at her residence. She was the wife of Frederick S. Flinchbaugh. The couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on March 1st.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Windsor Church of God Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Kenneth R. Gibson will be officiating at the service. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Flinchbaugh was born in Windsor on May 29, 1924, daughter of the late Harry and Elsie A. (Kraft) Strickler. She was self employed as a housekeeper and also worked as a housekeeper for the former Barley Convalescent Home. She was very involved with Pleasant View Brethren in Christ Church, where she attended and played piano. She and her husband had enjoyed flea marketing.

Mrs. Flinchbaugh leaves a daughter, Beverly A. Flinchbaugh of Red Lion; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Lonnie E. Flinchbaugh, two sisters, Rosetta Hershner and Ruth Herbst, and a brother, Frederick Strickler had preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Brethren in Christ, 434 E. Lancaster St., Red Lion, PA 17356; or York Rescue Mission, 367 W. Market St., York, PA 17401.
