Thanksgiving, as celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November, is an American holiday. Although many other cultures celebrate Thanksgiving at other times, the recollection of America’s “first Thanksgiving,” eating of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, is an American tradition.On Friday evening with 12 American students who are studying here in Sighișoara for the semester, hosted a large Thanksgiving dinner - complete with all the traditional American Thanksgiving food - for their host families and other Americans who live in Sighisoara. In total, nearly 50 people attended.
After the meal, the students were each asked to share what God has done for them during their time in Romania for which they are thankful. Many expressed thanks to their host families and other Romanians for being so welcoming. Others expressed how God has stretched them to see the world from a different perspective. Afterwards, various songs of Thanksgving were sung, including a Romanian song of giving thanks. (Click here to read the words in English.)
